Number 9986A was built in December 1955 (c/n 20535) on EMD Order 2071A for ten E9's, the last order for E units placed by the Burlington. It became BN 9986 sometime after the merger (March 2, 1970) and was sold the the West Suburban Mass Transit District (WSMTD) August 18, 1982. It was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen in Boise, Idaho during August 1973 and was returned as 9916, owned by the WSMTD and leased to the BN. It is leading the Denver Zephyr and will arrive in Denver the next morning at 9:00 AM, 1034 miles from its starting point, Union Station in Chicago. |
