Erie Alco S1 307 and EL Alco RS3 1047 stopped and picking up orders at Pullman Junction on the south side of Chicago, Illinois on April 20, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The S1 was built as Erie 307 in October 1946 (c/n 74962), classed SA-6 on the EL, and became BEDT 25 in 1968. The RS3 was built as DL&W 909 in April 1951 (c/n 78577), renumbered 1047 and classed as MFSA-16D-4 by the EL sometime after the 1960 merger and was retired in October 1976, rebuilt in July 1978 as CR DeWitt Geep 9994 by replacing the Alco Model 244 prime mover with an EMD Model 567 from a scrapped E8. As far as I know, the S1 was not equipped for MU, so this looks like the RS3 is assigned to move the S1, likely the EL needed a switcher somewhere in a hurry. |
