CRI&P E7 639, Blue Island, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Number 639 was built in February 1948 (c/n 3735) on EMD Order E712A. By the date of this photo, the Rock Island no longer operated trains, the commuter operations had been taken over by the Regional Transit Authority, which replaced these E units with F40PH's, and the freight operations were operated by the Kansas City Terminal, as directed by the ICC. The locomotive on the left, number 652, still in Bicentennial paint, survived.
