CB&Q 0-6-0 Class G-3 1553
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-3 1553 in the scrap line, I'm not sure of exact location or date, my best guess is sometime during 1960 at Lincoln, Nebraska, photograph by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. This locomotive was built by Baldwin ( c/n 39024 ) during January 1913, one of 50 Baldwin-built G-3 0-6-0 on the CB&Q, numbered 1530-1579. In addition, the CB&Q built 130 G-3's in its own shops (#'s 1400-1529). This particular G-3 was the last one to operate on the CB&Q, out of service but held in December 1957, finally sold for scrap in December 1960. When built it had 20"X24" cylinders, piston valves actuated by Stephenson link motion, driving wheelbase 10' 10", boiler pressure 180 psi, grate area 27.1 sq.ft., Emerson superheater (338 sq. ft.), tractive force 28,200 lbs., with 122,500 lbs. weight on the drivers. Tender capacity was eight tons of coal and 6,000 gallons of water, although it appears to have been converted to burn oil.
