CRI&P GP7R 4459
CRIP GP7R 4459 at Armourdale Yard in Kansas City, Kansas on August 15, 1975, 35mm slide by Paul L. Strang, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built in July 1952 as CRI&P GP7 1253 (c/n 16462) on EMD Order 5136, it was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen (March 19, 1975) for Precision National and leased back to the Rock Island. When the Rock folded in 1980, the leased units went back the PNC, later, this unit was sold to the C&NW, becoming 4134. During 1974-75, PNC purchased GP7's from the Wabash, Rio Grande, Nickel Plate, Frisco, and Rock Island, and had them rebuilt, either at Silvis, Illinois (work done by the CRI&P for PNC), M-K at Boise, Idaho, or the ICG at Paducah, Kentucky; 120 of the completed units were leased to the Rock Island. This particular unit has a M-K plate below the cab on the frame.
