| BN SW1200 232 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1980, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Number 232 was built in October 1955 as CB&Q SW1200 9274 (c/n 20546) on EMD Order 4302, became BN 232 sometime after the merger, and was retired by the BN in August 1986. About a half hour before this photo was shot, a road freight arrived that was too long for the arrival track. This forced that train to pull through the east end of that track, part the train and pull forward some more to clear the switch, allowing that half olf train to back into an adjacent empty track. While backing up one boxcar picked the switch and this is the result. See also BN SD40-2 8016 on this site. |
