WP GP40M 3512
Western Pacific GP40M 3512 at Denver, Colorado on April 23, 1983, Kodachrome by Jim Altman, Chuck Zeiler collection. I noticed a Morrison Knudsen plate on the frame, and preliminary research indicates that it was remanufactured in 1980. It appears that 16 GP40's (3501-3516) were remanufactured in 1980 by M-K. These units were renumbered into the UP or MP system as road numbers 651-665. This particular unit became UP 661 on December 9, 1985 and was rebuilt (again) by M-K and became KCS 4775, completed on January 8, 1994.

Gary Everhart General Interesting catch here! Not familiar with that paint scheme. 10/30/2012 5:25:28 AM
Rob Sarberenyi General WP 3512 was rebuilt in-kind by Morrison-Knudsen and released on 6/13/80. There was no change in model designation and it's simply an EMD GP40. 4/18/2024 4:40:57 PM
