Sperry Rail Service 139 at Waynesville, North Carolina on March 31, 1981, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. Various sources indicate this was former C&NW 300890. In April 1926, Saint Louis Car Company built three gas-electric cars on Job # 1394 for the C&NW, numbered 9901-9903. They were equipped with EMC Winton gasoline engines (EMC #'s 148-150). In 1942, one car was converted to trailer 9950 and in 1945 the other two were converted to trailers 9951 and 9952. On December 31, 1951, number 9952 was renumbered to C&NW X300889. In 1973 one car was sold to Automation Industries Inc, Sperry Rail Service Division. By process of elimination, SRS 139 was either former C&NW 9950 or 9951. |
