Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-4-2 class P-6 2582 at Galesburg, Illinois on an unknown date in 1948, photographer unknown, print by Don Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 2582 was built in 1904 by Baldwin (c/n 24672) as a class P-3-C (balanced compound) number 2704. It was rebuilt in 1927 as a class P-6 and renumbered 2582. The rebuilding was similar to the P-5 process except 69 inch driving wheels were used. It was sold for scrap ion August 1951. I believe the extended smokebox is an indicator that this locomotive burned Lignite coal. |
