Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9945A eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on February 25, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The building on the left was the Naperville News Agency, my source of employment as a newspaper boy in my early teen years. You may notice steam at the front of the locomotive. One of the principles of steam heat was that the steam eventually condensed back into water. Generally, the steam valves at either end of the train were cracked open slightly to let that water escape. |
