Chicago & North Western Railway SD9 1703 at Proviso, Illinois on January 9, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 1703 was built in May 1954 ( c/n 19498 ) and was equipped with botha steam generator and dynamic brakes. The steam generator was removed in June 1971 and the locomotive was renumbered to 6603. I have no idea about the receptacle below the headlights. It may have provided coach lighting with power from the auxiliary generator. |
