Title:
LI 616
Description:
Long Island 616 on the rear of a train at Hunterpoint Station in Long Island City, Queens, New York City on an unknown day in June 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The Long Island had 19 of these power cars, converted FA1's and FA2's, the traction motors were removed, and the prime mover de-rated to 600 horsepower running at a constant speed to provide heating and lighting power to the coaches. The controls were retained and wired for push-pull service. This particular locomotive started on the SP&S as FA1 860A, built in February 1949 ( c/n 76675 ), then renumbered to SP&S 880, then became BN 4108, acquired by the LI around July 29, 1973, repowered at an unknown date with a Detroit Diesel by GE. It left the LI roster in 2001 for Touristiques des Chaudieres Appalaches ( same road number ).
