Description:
Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad SD40 906 on the west side of Chicago, Illinois on September 4, 1982, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Seen here heading west on the ICG's Iowa Division at about Augusta Blvd and Western Ave. in Chicago, this locomotive was built in February 1966 (c/n 31012) on EMD Order 7843. It later became ICG 6055, then IC 6055, then IC 6034. Another source lists this locomotive as wrecked at Freeburg, Illinois on August 29, 1989 and retired. Perhaps it was rebuilt after the wreck, I don't know for sure.
