Amtrak E8 403 at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an uinknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. There were two Amtrak EMD E-units numbered 403, this appears to be the 2nd 403. The first 403 was former B&O E9 40, later B&O 1457 (c/n 20380), retired by Amtrak in October 1975. This one was built in July 1952 as PRR E8 5803 (c/n 15667) on EMD Order 6354, was renumbered to PRR 4283, then PC 4283, then Amtrak 403. |
