CR GP38-2 7990 |
Description: |
Conrail GP38-2 7990 at Englewood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in July 1978, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. In the background is Englewood Union Station (EUS), once a stop for passenger trains of the NYC, PRR, CRI&P and NKP. It fell into disuse after Amtrak and no longer exists. The primary purpose of EUS was a transfer point, rather than a destination. If you came in from the east, and wanted to go to, say southwest to Joliet, you could get the Rock Island train at Englewood, instead of going all the way into downtown Chicago and transferring there. |
