Amtrak P30CH 720
Title:  Amtrak P30CH 720
Description:  Amtrak P30CH 720 at Alton Junction in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 720 is stepping onto new rails, the diamonds at Alton Junction have just been replaced. The Dearborn Street Station was closed in 1971 but the tracks leading to it remained for a few years, including the diamonds and switches at this location. Also note in the middle left of this photo the backwards word AMTRAK. This was the street entrance to the former AT&SF coach yard, which Amtrak used for a period of time until consolidating activities at the former PRR coach yard south of Union Station.

Amtrak P30CH 720
Title:  Amtrak P30CH 720
Description:  Amtrak P30CH 720 as seen from the 18th Street bridge in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The raised bridge in the background once led to Chicago's Grand Central Station, and after the station closed at the end of 1969, The bridge was locked in the up position. The lowered bridge in the background is the ICG (at the time of this photo) Saint Charles Air Line. See the Wikipedia articles for more information.

A personal observation, GE never could figure out how to blend in the intake and radiator grills to the design of the locomotive.
