CSS&SB Pullman built 103 at the Michigan City Shops on October 23, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Number 103 was built by Pullman Car and Manufacturing Company in 1926 as a 60 foot combination car with a 16 seat smoking section, 28 seats in the non-smoking section. As built, the cars deliverd in 1926 featured electric heaters and a supplimental hot water heater. During 1943 it was lengthened to a 77 foot car by splicing a 17 foot section in the middle. During 1950 air-conditioning equipment was installed and the windows were changed to sealed "picture" windows. |

Both cars were built as 61 foot trailers in 1927 by Pullman Car and Manufacturing Company, number 204 was lengthened at Michigan City to 78 feet in 1947, the same for 205 but in 1948. As originally built, each trailer had rotating bucket seats upholstered in Byzantine plush and, in place of the customary smoking section, the cars were provided with an enclosed Pullman-type smoking compartment with facing leather-covered seats for eight passengers. An aisle passing around the compartment made in unnecessary for passengers entering or leaving the car to pass through the smoking compartment. |

Number 206 was built in 1927 by the Pullman Car and Manufacturing Company, one of ten ordered by the Insull management to handle increased passenger traffic. Twenty new cars were ordered in 1927 to suppliment the 25 cars delivered in 1926; ten were motor coaches and ten were control trailers, all were 61 foot in length. The seats were changed from walkover seating (on the original 25 cars) to rotating bucket seats , and the smoking section was changed to a Pullman-style smoking compartment. This was a fan trip on the IC's Electric Division, I don't recall the sponsor, perhaps the Central Electric Railfans' Association. The pictured MU car was number 1236, built in 1928 by Pullman. This was the motor of a motor-trailer pair. There is probably a woman somewhere on this planet that would love to see this photo. |

Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad ( Erie Lackawanna by this photo date ) MU coach 2539 at Newark, New Jersey on an unknowen day in June 1965, Koadachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. Between 1929–1930 Pullman and General Electric constructed 141 new electric multiple units for the suburban service. These were numbered 2500–2640. Each car could seat 84 passengers. They were paired with 141 trailer coaches and operated until 1984. |
