CB&Q SW1200 9273
Title:  CB&Q SW1200 9273
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad SW1200 9273 at Chicago, Illinois on February 24, 1968, photograph by The Garys, print by J. M. Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 9273 was built September 1955 ( c/n 20545 ), became BN 231, and later BNSF 3503. This shows what was known as a wagon wheel radio antenna, specifically, a Bendix Type MS-101A pre-tuned ground plane antenna connected to the MRT-1A communication unit powered by a MP-44A dynamotor power supply ( located behind the rear exhaust stack ). The dynamotor converted the locomotive's DC power to regulated power ( 13 volts DC tube filament and 325 volts DC plate voltage ) for the MRT-1A.

CB&Q SW1200 9277
Title:  CB&Q SW1200 9277
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad SW1200 9277 at Clyde, Illinois on October 22, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in October 1955 ( c/n 20549 ) on EMD Order 4302, it became BN 235. Of interest to CB&Q fans is that although 9977 is newer, it displays the older ( original ) switcher paint scheme. "Way of the Zephyrs" was painted on the Engineer's side, and "Everywhere West" was painted on the other ( Fireman's ) side. As best I can determine. the loco behind is NW2 9212, based on close examination of the slide (the last number appears to be a 2), and the straight stacks, applied to the early NW2's. It sports the newer CB&Q switcher paint scheme.
