CB&Q 13848 |
Description: |
CB&Q 13848 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on November 15, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The power at the front of this train was GN F-units led by GN FT 403D. One possible explanation for this situation is that the CB&Q (at the time of this photo) assigned the waycar (caboose) to specific Conductors, so for the trip from Galesburg to Chicago, the Conductor's waycar would be attached. |

GN FTA 403D |
Description: |
Great Northern Railway FTA 403D (Built as 302C) eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on November 15, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Jim Sandrin offers the following explanation for GN power in Naperville. The shots of GN power were primarily on trains 97/88, pool power between Chicago and St. Paul. While GN power was occasionally leased, particularly during the Sugar Beet campaign on lines west, Chuck's photos are of the pool train. Missouri Pacific F-units were leased for a few months and saw service out of Lincoln. A shot in the first (Burlington Route Historical Society) SD Bulletin shows one of these in Lincoln. |
