Description:  Iowa Terminal Railroad 31 at Emery, Iowa on an unknown day, phntographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 31 was built by the Cincinnati Car Company in 1922 as Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad Mechandise Motor 216. The Iowa Terminal acquired three of these motors after the CNS&M shut down in 1963 (#'s 216, 234, and 239), number 31 (216) was lost in a fire on Thanksgiving day in 1967. Former CNS&M 234 was stored until 1968, then renumbered to IATR 33. The former 239 was never used on the Iowa Terminal but was stripped for parts.

IATR 33
Title:  IATR 33
Description:  Iowa Terminal Railroad box motor at Charles City, Iowa on an unknown day in August 1965, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. During 1963 the Iowa Terminal acquired three former Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee Railway merchandise box motors ( #'s 216, 234, 239 ) to ease a motive power shortage. The former 216 was renumbered to IART 31 and was destroyed in a fire in 1967. Number 234 was eventually renumbered to IATR 33, stored until 1968 and used in service until 1974. Number 239 was assigned IATR 32, but was never repainted and instead used as a parts source. By process of elimination, I believe this photo shows former CNS&M 234 ( front ) and 239 ( rear ).
