Milwaukee Road HH660 (Alco's model designation was DL-199) 983 at Savanna, Illinois on July 23, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in March 1939 as road number 1603 (c/n 69077) it was renumbered to 983, class 6-AS on the Milwaukee and retired in January 1961. It was originally assigned to Marquette, Iowa. Also seen is Davenport 44 ton 997, one of only two on the Milwaukee and classed as 3.8-DS, built in January 1942 as road number 1709 (c/n 2365), retired in August 1958. It was originally assigned to Tama, Iowa. |

| Description: |
MILW Class 3.8 DS 997, Savanna, Illinois, July 23, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in January 1942 by Davenport as road number 1709, this was one of only two Davenport 44 ton locomotives on the Milwaukee. Number 997 was retired in 1958, and apparently languished around until this photo date. The other was 1708, wrecked August 19, 1958. |
