It kept this road number when it became C&NW property in July 1968, and was traded to EMD in January 1969. It is dead in this westbound train, and judging from the condition of the front steps, it is likely enroute for repairs to Oelwein, Iowa, the location of the CGW shops. |

Built in January, 1949 (c/n 73888), Baldwin built two versions of the DS-4-4-1000, the successor to the VO-1000. The first version was powered by a normally-aspired 608NA eight-cylinder diesel, and the second version was powered by the 606SC six-cylinder Elliot turbocharged diesel. The spotting feature is four exhaust stacks for the 608NA, and a single stack for the 606SC. |
