SCL E6 501 |
Description: |
SCL E6 501 at Denver Union Station, Denver, Colorado, July 13, 1975 at 5:00PM, photo by J. H. Nixon, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 501 was built as an E3A for the ACL in November 1939 (c/n 959) on EMC Order E335, was wrecked before delivery to ACL, returned to EMC and rebuilt as an E6A. It was retired in 1972 and later owned by Glen Monhart, restored to ACL appearance, and kept in Wisconsin. After Mr. Monhart was tragically killed in an auto accident the estate sold it and it now resides at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. It's actually owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and it is on "long term loan" to the museum, which is offically part of the Department of Cultural Resources. |
