Built in July 1953 as SP SW8 4620 (c/n 18355) on EMD Order 4179, class ES408-3, it was renumbered to 1125 during SP's 1965 renumbering program. Note the dynamic brake option located in front of the cab. This was one of 20 SW8's so equipped on the SP (original road #'s, 4604-4623, re# 1109-1128). The original plan was to use these locomotives on the Northwestern Pacific, but they were quickly replaced by SD7's. They were re-assigned to the Pacific Electric and SD&AE, and this unit was at work on the latter when photographed. |
