Description:
CRI&P E8 657, Blue Island, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The Rock Island is all but shut down, and some of the locomotives not used by the Kansas City Terminal (the directed operator of the railroad) were stored at Blue Island. Here is E8 657, built as C&NW E7A 5007B in March 1945 (c/n 1966) on EMD Order E536, wrecked on the UP September 1951 at Wyuta, Utah, purchased by the UP and sent to EMD and rebuilt into UP E8 925 on EMD Order 8012. It was sold to the Rock Island in August 1969.
