CGW GP9m 120
Description:
Chicago Great Western Railway GP9m 120 in Chicago, Illinois on February 13, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as a GP7 in September 1951 (c/n 14719) on EMD Order 5102, it was wrecked during 1955, returned to EMD and rebuilt to a GP9m (1500 hp) on EMD Order 8041, became C&NW 120 upon merger, rebuilt by C&NW to 4337, and eventually became MRL 115. It appears to have a steam line, odd considering there is no water tank and no apparent steam generator. The only explanation I can come up with is that this unit (and GP7 121) could be used as trailing units on passenger trains if the unit leading generated steam.

D&RGW Alco S2 114 and 117
Description:
D&RGW Alco S2's 114 and 117 at Denver, Colorado on August 20, 1964, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This photo was shot from an open door on Chicago Burlington & Quincy Train #10, The eastbound Denver Zephyr (DZ), as I was returning from a vacation with my parents in Colorado Springs. I had free access to a Dutch door on a Budd sleeper from Colorado Springs to Denver, because the Rio Grande crew was too pre-occupied with their part of the train to pay attention to me opening a door to shoot photos. But once the Colorado Springs connection was attached to the DZ at Denver, the CB&Q crew took over, and they frowned upon my opening the doors to shoot pictures, so this is the last shot I got.

EL S2 504
Description:
Erie Lackawanna S2 504 northbound at 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois on January 9, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Alco built this S2 for the Erie in November 1946 (c/n 73891), classed as a SA-10 by EL. On the left is the 47th Street station, actually a two story structure (the railroad is elevated over city streets), which I believe was built by the C&WI and also used by the Erie, C&EI and Wabash.

ERIE S2 522
Description:
Erie S2 522 at Lowe Park, around 52nd Street and Normal Avenue in Chicago, Illinois on April 11, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Still painted for its original owner, this locomotive is (at the time of this photo) employed by the Erie Lackawanna. It was built in June 1949 (c/n 76778), classed as SA-10 by the Erie (seen under the road number on the side of the cab), classed as MSA-10 by the EL, I suppose accounting for the MU capability of this locomotive.
